Both my parents are artists and I have been around image making for most of my life. My father a painter and mother a ceramicist. I was born in Stoke on Trent in the potteries and moved to London at a very young age to work in a Gallery and moved onto study Photography at Nottingham Trent University.
Since graduating I have worked as a freelance photographer for 16 years starting at The Face and Sleazenation magazines shooting club kids and documenting sub-cultures. I keep my personal work close to my roots on social documentation of people.
I have since photographed for The Sunday Times Magazine on British Lidos, The New Yorker, Jeremy Scott, ASAP Rocky for iD magazine and also developed projects with a strong theme, for example a portrait series on Afro-punks movement in NYC. A self published book on the Underage festival kids between 12-18 years old. I have been interested in the subject the “teenager”, focusing on their behavioral patterns and how they express their identity through fashion I have documented kids at the “Underage Festival” for 5 years, which developed into a book and foreword written by Craig Mclean. This book came 2nd in the world at International Photography Awards. The portrait and project collections are varied and include work for Vogue, Teen Vogue and W magazine. Also, I have shot projects for high end brands Adidas, Quicksilver, Nokia, Easyjet and young hopefuls for Lloyds TSB Olympics campaign. I have just made 3 short films on Skater Girls for i-D magazine and 1 has been viewed by 147K poeple, you can see it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBN5vz0Pu8w
My photography is bright. colourfull and energentic. Communication and relaxation run through my style of photography and also I like to continue this on set. This implements something authentic from my subjects. I am constantly in search of honesty, personalities and stories, its what I find attractive in people that helps me achieve those moments of time. When I photograph a subject, I’m not just trying to create something, I’m reading the way people act, watching how they respond and using that understanding to get the best image in camera.
These moments in time can take a number of people on set and I am incrediably lucky to have a great team that I can rely on to help produce great images. I usually work by placing a number of people in a situation and then see what happens, having fun and letting it produce itself. I am at ease working anywhere in the world but my home is in East London.
